Honeymoon / Mini moon

Why do we take honeymoons, and why is it called a honeymoon... well other than needing a break after all that organising honeymoons are, according to Wiki:  honeymoon is the traditional holiday taken by newlyweds to celebrate their marriage in intimacy and seclusion. Today, honeymoons by Westerners are often celebrated in destinations considered exotic and/or romantic.  Find more here at Wiki.

I've been searching out honeymoons, the best length of time and for the best cost... brain ache.

So first I wanted to do the train across Eastern Europe for two weeks, H2B hates trains and there is a little too much unrest over there at the mo.  Then I wanted do Washington DC / Charleston SC & Austin then fly to Belize - this didn't fit our time frame or budget, will do them desperately at a later date.

He then suggested the Maldives, I really don't want to spend thousands on a beach, we could go to Greece and have just as much of a good time (or so I think)... I suggested Mauritius as an alternative.  Lovely beaches, good weather, but there is a little more culture and things to see and do.  Problem, May is not a great time to visit Mauritius... back to the Maldivies it seems.  I spent ages looking at Islands comparing them, nothing seems worth the money but we were umming and arrring.

Then today I received my daily email from Voyage Prive and I thought 'let's have a look' and they had a great offer for a luxury hotel in Bali.  Close enough to the Indian Ocean, but with a little more to see and do PERFECT,  Since we are going on a short trip to Bali, we've decided to do another break in Mauritius in November :-)

Places I search for honeymoon:

Mr & Mrs Smith
Virgin Holidays
Expedia
Voyage Prive

I also contacted a few hotels in the Maldives directly.  LUX Maldives do a great honeymoon offer, discounted rate for the Bride, about 70% off.
