Knowing what I know now

With only 46 days until the wedding now, what would I have done differently?  Pushed harder for what I wanted not what H2B and other family members want.

If we cancelled it all now and started again, I would wear the jumpsuit I wanted, let the H2B wear jeans.. having my maids in jumpsuits too, get married at the local registry office and have drinks/nibbles at a local pub after the honeymoon.

A classic elopement with a stylish edge, and CHEAP!  http://popwed.co/2014/10/09/alternative-brides-guide-eloping/

GET THE LOOK: Wedding Festival Theme

This theme is inspired by many modern weddings, and is what we'll be having for our 'big day' next May !

Wedding Festivals are a great way to make the most of your celebration, in a relaxed fun setting.  Must haves:  marquee/ti-pi / food vans / bar / music / hay bales / games / lights & vintage dresses

We are adding fancy dress, face painting etc. for the bestial vibe.

A Northern Wedding

We were in Manchester this Friday (25.07) for a family wedding on my boyfriends side.  A big Northern traditional family wedding.

What a lovely day it was indeed, fantastic weather and no rain!

The colour scheme pinks and whites (both light and dark).  The brides dress was lovely, very traditional, as was the theme, but I think she could have found a style slight more suitable for her figure!

They started with a Catholic wedding (which I think these days are a little to long), followed by a fabulous reception at Gorton Monastery!  We all arrived by vintage bus put of by the bride and groom.

We were welcomed with a glass of champagne in the garden, then canapes - to be honest there was more than one glass per person (which I love).  Then we found our tables (all named after places they had visited). The favors: a donation to four charities close to their heart, and we each received a pin representing one!

Red, and white wine were on the table and an extra glass of bubbles for the speeches!  The sit down meal: Duck pate, pan fried chicken leg with chorizo risotto and to finish either chocolate mousse or creme brulee.

The groom and best man speeches were emotion and about friends and family, no need to make a joke at the grooms expense.  The father of the groom choose not to make a speech??

After this it was a blur for a while... the bar was free :-)))  *big plus points*

Then the newly weds took to the floor for their first dance followed by us drunken ladies kicking our heels off and making some shapes to the 80s disco!!

The evening reception was great as well.  They had an evening buffet, BBQ style, mini burgers, kebabs etc.  A pick n mix station and make your own Mr Whipy ice cream. BEST THING EVER.

After that the night drinks, smokes and chatter, thank god for free bars.  A great day and night was had by all.

Cluck cluck... its a Hen Party!

Several girls in the office are engaged and one is now only 6 weeks away from the big day!!  We are a close little office, so we've decided on a work hen do.

8 girls, high tea, hair and nails.  What could be worse?

We'll be trying to maintain an air of class with this outing... high tea and prosecco, with a blow dry and nail paint at UR Cheeky.  Our favorite place to go for a cheap nail paint.

We've also bought the bride the obligatory 'Bride to Be' sash and badges for the hen party :-))

Wedding House Party

Wedding house party... what is this!  Well I've seen a few lovely venues offer 'sleepovers' the night before the big day, specially venues you hire as a whole.

Have private'adult' boys/girls sleep over!  This lead me to thinking, if we get married and aren't inviting family, would I just love a big house party?

* Hire a large manor house in the country for the weekend (Fri - Mon)
* Hire a local venue for the wedding (hotel / church / registry office)
* Wedding breakfast at a local hotel / restaurant or hire caters to provide it at the house
* Ask your guests to arrive either the night before or on the day (they'll only need to cover their travel costs)
* Use a local supermarket to order food/drink and have it delivered to the house

Cheap / fun and a cool alternative wedding party!

Single Pink Rose

When my mum and dad got married in 1984 they were young and in love... but limited on cash.

Their wedding was for 50 close friends and family at our local Abbey.  My dad wore his soldiers uniform, Mum and my Nan (her mum) made the wedding dress, which was very on trend at the time and she carried a single pink porcelain rose!

After the wedding my nan kept the rose on a shelf at the top of her stairs... it was only recently several years after my nan passed away and I am thinking about my future wedding that I remembered the rose.  All those years as a child climbing the stairs, seeing the rose but not realising what it stood for!

Even now 12 years after my parents split up that rose has meaning, and I really wanted to use it on my big day.  Sadly 30 years after their big day the rose is no longer :-(

Tulle Wedding Dresses - Grown Up tutus!

So also big love for tulle dresses at the mo... thinking this will be my look for our formal 'family friendly' engagement party!  Very Carrie Bradshaw.  Might also put the bridesmaid in something similar for the big day...

Sequin Wedding Dresses - shine like a star!

I just love long sequin dresses for the big day at the moment, they are a little bit different, give a great silhouette and just BOOM all eyes are on you.  A must have I reckon for not so weddingy weddings!

Plus you can buy them from most high street stores, or prom shop and get them at a cheaper price as the word wedding isn't necessarily attached.

Maybe try a different colour too...

Wedding Venue Review - Hartsfield Manor

Hartsfield Manor is part of the De Vere Venues group - with lovely venues all over the UK!  We spent a night at their Surrey venue over Christmas.

The house and grounds itself are lovely, would make a great backdrop to anyone's big day.  The only disappointment would if you are staying in the rooms they built at the side of the house... looks like a cheap prefab school building, the rooms are good but badly proportioned!

They do offer great value on some of the Wedding Packages - check them out here

and the Groom wore JEANS!

Does your H2B not fancy a a suit for his big day, or you are both feeling a little more casual BIG day... how about the groom and his men wear jeans with a nice shirt and blazer/waistcoat combo?

A little more comfortable for him, bring the whole mood to a more 'fun' level, better suited to smaller weddings?

Here are a few ways to make the best of this look... and not just like a cowboy ;-)

Big Day with a big bang!

Fancy having a big day with a big bang..., maybe invest in a couple of wedding cannons!  Great for the first dance, when the couple leave the church / registry office or photos.  Customise your confetti to match your theme?  Petals, butterfly's, stars, hearts etc

GET THE LOOK: Religious Themed Weddings

These day's the majority of weddings are not for religious reasons, out of my experience... more for the tradition, the commitment, the security... but there are a few who like to bless their special day with religion or those who are marrying as it is a religious right of passage.

Here are a few ideas, if you decided to add a religious theme for any reason to your big day!
